Exploring National Parks in the US
Though I’m a city girl at heart, I’ve enjoyed all the national parks that my husband and I have visited over the years. Some of our favorites include Mount Rainier and Olympic National Park. One of things I’m looking forward to doing this year is visiting a more local national park in the Northeast.
Here are some fun facts about US national parks:
While the National Park System comprises of over 400 national park sites, only 62 of them have the “National Park” designation in their names (as of August 2020, when this project was created). Visiting all 62 national parks will take you to 22 states and 2 U.S. Territories.
In 2019, there were almost 90 million recreational visits to national parks. With over 12 million recreational visits in 2019, Great Smoky Mountains is the most popular park in the US. That’s because almost everyone has heard of Great Smoky Mountains. But the most beautiful places are often the ones that are off-the-beaten path. For me, it’s the ones that are yet to be explored.
